...an inside look at the style, the stars and the
beauty stuff that's street &
sweet...
Lady-killer - A man with scents is to
die for
 Gentlemen, if you’re wondering how
to lure the ladies and then keep the females feinin’, get back
to basics and appeal to a woman’s senses. One way to get to a
woman’s heart is to help her follow her nose. Creed’s Silver
Mountain Water will have any woman’s nose wide open for you.
Scented with natural essences of green tea and black currants
and inspired by the French Alps, SMW is crisp and clean. The
light scent is a great way to get suave for the spring.
For a truly fresh scent, those
that prefer their style to say prestige and personality should
peep Creed’s new line Bond 9. The collection of 16 fragrances
each capture a different quality of New York (each named after
a street) and are custom to how much you want, as little as 1
oz, and contained in your selection from a variety of unique
bottles.
The scent may be one secret to their sex
symbol status. Join the circle of celebs and artists that
enjoy this distinctive Creed fragrance – Montel Williams,
David Bowie, Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez.

Marvin Gaye. Just
the name alone relaxes you and can put you in da mood. Not only in
the mood for love, but in the mood to take a stance and make a
difference in your community. Who can escape goose bumps hearing
Marvin's mellifluous flow on 'What's Goin On'? -- "Mother, Mother,
there's too many of you crying...Brother, Brother, Brother, there's
far too many of you dieing...You know we gotta find a way...to bring
some LOVING here today." Ouch. Make you wanna HOLLA!
Thanks
to Washington Post columnist, Courtland Milloy, who's story, D.C.
Turns It's Back on It's Heritage, Washington Post/Metro, Pg. B1,
(April 30th), has alerted The Squad that a developer is about to
demolish the childhood home of MARVIN GAYE. The apartment is in
Northeast, Washington, D.C. is about to be demolished to make way
for a PARKING LOT. Marvin would undoubtedly say, "What's Going On?"
Come on people, A PARKING LOT? A place for people to park steel,
glass, gasoline and rubber as opposed to preserving this great,
legendary musicians home. "The developer says he is surprised that
no one has even mentioned the idea of preserving Gaye's home, and
says he needs to hear right away if people think this is important,"
Steve Coleman, a preservationist, wrote in a recent
e-mail.
WELL FADE IN SUBSCRIBERS...PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT
THIS. PLEASE. MARVIN GAYE may not be a former President, but he is
the indelible ink of our inner-city souls. No matter who you are, we
know Marvin has comforted you at some point in your life. DO
SOMETHING NOW.
Seriously. This may or may not appear to be
important, but trust us, it is.

...with Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Kool
Herc, Kurtis Blow, Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick, Afrika Bambaata,
and many other pioneers & heroes of a culture that spawned a
generation of innovative thinkers, creative doers, and risk-takers
who never take no for an answer. Hip- Hop has evolved from a street
corner pastime to the impetus for the many entrepreneurial endeavors
that our sistas and brothas have and are creating. Take
for example the Rennie Harris Puremovement Dance Company
(RHPM). Established in 1992 by hip–hop pioneer/choreographer
Rennie Harris, RHPM is focused on preserving and disseminating
hip-hop culture through workshops, classes, hip-hop history
lecture-demonstrations, mentoring programs and public
performances. The company’s creations capture the marriage
very colorful and distinct African American traditions
with the current voice of our culture via interpretive
dance. Instead of hyping bling-bling or fifty cent, RHPM is
dedicated to a supplying audiences with a genuine perspective of the
heart and soul of hip hop. Fifty is definitely hip-hop's "it", but
the history of the art must be preserved. Just think, where would
hip-hop be without the history of jazz, funk, soul, r&b, rock,
blues and classical?
The company’s latest creation, Facing Mekka, recently
made its debut as a part of the UCLA Live Performing Arts series .
Mekka is a deeply spiritual journey that connects the audience
to the African roots and rhythms of modern hip-hop culture.
The show uses beat boxing and a live DJ as a musical backdrop
to a blend of breakdancing , pop locking, ballet, jazz, and
traditional African dance. Mekka incorporates a visual montage
of pivotal moments in Harris’ life thru the dancers who evoke the
purest emotion from within, as if their souls have a direct
connection to Harris himself. Currently embarking on its national
tour, this is one show you don't want to miss. Hip-Hop, it started
out in the park.

WILL AMERICAN IDOL LOSE ITS CREDIBILITY IF RUBEN
DOESN'T WIN?
We are major fans
of AMERICAN IDOL. We think the show is a great place
for young people to really work on their singing careers
and grow as individuals. HOWEVER, THE SQUAD was about
to get WICKED with hate if Big Rube was voted off
AMERICAN IDOL last week. It was bad enough that Trenyce
was voted off, but Ruben sitting in the bottom half
was a "credibility" problem for the show. Many people
have e-mailed us saying that they stopped watching
it when others were voted off earlier. Nevertheless,
we believe that RUBEN is the best singer the show
has ever had. Ruben can walk into any studio
right now and make a hit record and you know
this maaaaan. HE IS THE AMERICAN IDOL. At least
that's what we think. SO VOTE PEOPLE - VOTE! We want
Ruben to win, but hey, JUST VOTE for your favorite
performer.

SAVE THE
DATE - MAY 9th - IN THEATERS
"HIP-HOP, it started out
in the park." Remember that line from MC Shan? Well, Shan was
wrong. To fully understand the flow of music and the
intergalactic rise of Hip-Hop, one must take it back to the
old school to fully understand. In fact, if it wasn't for the
sampling of Classic Soul & R&B, upon what shoulders
would Hip-Hop stand? If popular media were the judge, "Walk
This Way", from Run DMC and Aerosmith, was the lightning rod
for Hip-Hop. Others may think Hip-Hop didn't shine until NWA
put it down without remorse or when Rakim asked, "HOW CAN I
MOVE THE CROWD?" The bottom line is that many can be credited
with adding their Lego block to the house of Hip-Hop, but The
Squad believes in the undeniable force of Soul Music in
providing THE JUMPOFF for Hip-Hop's growth.

Believe it or not she's a reflection of me…
Where I'm going, memories of where I've come
from
Together we form us...
Us, you know, the us in we are family
The us in the now, next and past generation…
Though my thoughts are images that reflect
my “own” personality
They’re seeds of what she would have done,
did do or won't say...
Believe it or not she is a reflection of me...
Where I'm going, memories of where I've come
from
You see these genes I wear
They’re the only pair of hand-me downs I strut
as though I'm wearing a crown...
I'm honored to say the little things she says
I'm honored when they say "girl you act jus
like yo mama"
I'm honored when she says "I can't get too
mad at cha’ because my
Mama told me, I'd get some of my done back"...
Believe it or not she is a reflection of me
Where I'm going, memories of where I've come
from
When I’m going through the valley, she’s there
When I’m standing on the mountaintop, she’s
there
When I encompass the ocean, she’s there
When I live out the vision I feel, she’s there
When I struggle with these genes suited for
me and no one else, she’s there...
Believe it or not she is a reflection of me…
No matter what changes this reflection will
only get clearer
You see heaven makes no mistakes…
That’s why there’s no policy for exchange...
Believe it or not she is a reflection of me...
Where I'm going, memories of where I've come
from
Love you mom
