ABOUT THE FILM - THE GRISTLE Two
struggling bro's living in Los Angeles think they've encountered great luck when
they are hired to deliver some black-market human body parts (kidneys) to a wealthy
and needy U.S. Senator. But another criminal drop-off -- the delivery of pure
cocaine weight -- has been scheduled for that same night and same location. Neither
set of drop-off men, nor buyers, knows with certainty the physical appearance
of their contacts other than their RACE. THAT'S RIGHT, ALL H*LL BREAKS
LOOSE. | |
THE
SQUAD considers this film a must see. It's creative, thought provoking and well
acted. We are also extremely impressed with the tenacity and genius of the filmmakers
Geno Taylor and Mychal Wilson. Utilizing their many years of business training
and acting study, the two managed to produce the film, star in the film and became
the FIRST filmmakers to obtain funding from the United States Small Business Administration.
Unfortunately, the NEW administration while searching for WOMD have been unwilling
or inattentive to the program. WE STRONGLY URGE ALL FILMMAKERS and THOSE INTERESTED
IN SUPPORTING "INDEPENDENT FILM" to SUPPORT THIS FILM by
RENTING or BUYING IT! The U.S. Government's support for the Motion
Picture Industry in this manner will be a critical tool in combating "RUNAWAY"
(Runaway Production is the loss of feature film production to countries outside
of the United States and its territories) production that has been occuring over
the past five years due to similar Industry support currently active by the governments
of CANADA and other countries. HBO has also acquired the film for Television distribution.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS - The Squad was able to spend some time chatting with
Geno Taylor, Producer and star of THE GRISTLE. SJJ - We understand
that the program used to produce the film is no longer available to filmmakers?
GT - "After "The Gristle", Mychal Wilson and I consulted
for the Small Business Administration (SBA). They created a SBA film-financing
program for independent filmmakers seeking loans to fund movies. Due to the high
volume of applications and lack of personnel qualified to process loans it was
requested that we form a consulting company.
Therefore,
Mychal Wilson and I formed a Film Financing Consultant Company (Public Eye Entertainment)
I worked for the company as CEO/President for 18 months. From day one, the Bush
Administration put the program on turn around, initially making it almost impossible
to process a loan, to eventually terminating the program. Good-bye Public Eye
Entertainment!!! SJJ - Sad but true of this Administration. I
hope they realize that supporting filmmakers is critical to the stability of our
industry. Later on that subject. Besides The Gristle, what else are you doing?
GT - "Today I'm partner and president of Billionaire Entertainment
Film Corporation. We are a film production, finance and distribution company.
We have two titles in distribution; "Turn of Faith" and "Color
of a Dream"; and we are picking up new titles every week. We have two movies
that we will produce and finance slated for the last two quarters of this year.
The fisrt movie is "Untitled" but a horror movie, cast TBA, Director
David Portlock, Casting Director Robi Reed-Humes, Pre production starts Early
August. The two years at Public Eye Entertainment is looked upon as grad school
for film financing. I walked away with a wealth of knowledge, experience and valuable
relationships. My relationship with Lightyear Entertainment is a product of Public
Eye. I have also been approached by filmmakers to act in their movies, therefore,
I will resume my acting career in the second half of this year (2003).

WILSON - Producer and Star. Mychal Wilson's first taste of film was
in 1996 when he starred and Executive Produced with partner Geno Taylor a short
film called THE SPARTANS which received much acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival.
The project was directed by David Portlock. It was then he conceived the SBA film
financing idea, which eventually came to fruition with THE GRISTLE. He has completed
internships in the legal departments at both American Film Marketing Association
(AFMA) and Miramax films. After completing THE GRISTLE, he concurrently
worked as a pharmaceutical sales rep for Bristol-Myers Squibb and attended law
school at Southwestern University School of Law's evening program specializing
in entertainment law. Currently, he is studying for the California Bar Exam and
developing several projects such as "The Joe Louis Story". Upon
passing the California 2003 July Bar exam, he will open an entertainment shingle
called Fagen & Wilson, LLP and a production company. The law firm will concentrate
on representing actors, writers, directors, producers and film distribution.

DAVID
PORTLOCK - Writer and Director David Portlock was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
He attended Lafayette College and earned a B.S. degree in economics and business.
Upon graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue an acting career and later
moved to Los Angeles to do the same. After many years and many cattle calls he
decided to try his luck at writing screenplays. This eventually lead to writing
and directing the 1996 Sundance short film entry, THE SPARTANS. Mr. Portlock served
as the writer and director of THE GRISTLE which was his first feature in conjunction
with Mychal Wilson and Geno Taylor. | |
| |
Mr. Portlock's next project is the horror thriller, "The Wicked". "The
Wicked", is a tale about four children in Los Angeles that accidentally release
a demonic presence into their neighborhood. It will be produced by Geno Taylor
and Billionaire Entertainment. Mr. Portlock also has several projects in development
